What it is
Pressure on the right points, not painkillers
Acupressure is a traditional therapy that works by applying firm, sustained pressure to specific points on the body. Those points sit along pathways that connect to muscles, nerves and circulation — which is why pressing one point can ease pain somewhere else entirely.
Nothing is injected, nothing is prescribed. It is done with the hands, and the only thing that changes is how much tension your body is holding and how well blood is reaching the areas that have gone stiff.
At Avni Wellness Center we use acupressure most often for long-standing back and neck pain — the kind that eases with rest and returns the moment you sit at a desk again. It is also our starting point for patients who want to avoid adding more medication.

How it works
Three things acupressure changes
Simple mechanics — no mystery involved.
Releases held tension
Muscles that have been tight for months stop relaxing on their own. Sustained pressure on the right point breaks that holding pattern, and the surrounding area loosens with it.
Improves circulation
Stiff tissue gets less blood, and less blood means slower repair. Pressure draws fresh circulation into the area, which is often when patients first notice the change.
Settles the pain signal
With chronic pain the nervous system stays on alert long after the injury has healed. Regular sessions help bring that signal back down to a normal level.

Who should mention it first
Acupressure is gentle, but tell us before your session if you are pregnant, have a bleeding disorder, a pacemaker, recent fractures or surgery, varicose veins, or are on blood-thinning medication.
We do not ask anyone to stop prescribed medicine, and we work alongside your doctor's treatment rather than in place of it. If your condition needs a specialist, we will say so.
Common questions
Acupressure therapy — your questions
It feels like firm, deep pressure — sore in a manageable way, similar to a deep tissue massage. Tight areas will feel more tender than others, and that soreness usually settles within a day. Tell us at any point if it feels too intense and we ease off.
It depends on how long the problem has existed. Recent muscular pain often eases within 4–6 sessions. Long-standing complaints like chronic cervical pain or sciatica usually need a longer course. You get an honest estimate after the first assessment, not a package sold upfront.
Many patients notice looseness and easier movement the same day. Actual pain reduction usually builds over the first few sessions rather than arriving all at once. If nothing has changed after three or four sessions, we reassess rather than continue blindly.
No. Massage works broadly across muscle groups to relax them. Acupressure targets specific points chosen for your condition, and the point being pressed is often nowhere near where you feel the pain. The goal is treatment, not relaxation — though most people find it relaxing anyway.
No. Acupressure is done fully clothed — just wear something loose and comfortable. Sessions happen in a private therapy room, and a female attendant is available on request.
Yes, and often it is. Acupressure pairs well with cupping for back and shoulder stiffness, and with panchakarma where digestion or fatigue is part of the picture. After the assessment we suggest the combination that fits your case.
