What it is
Gentle suction, where the stiffness sits
Cupping is a traditional therapy in which cups are placed on the skin and a gentle vacuum lifts the tissue beneath them. Rather than pressing down, as massage does, cupping draws the skin and muscle upward. Many people describe it as a deep, slow stretch in places they cannot otherwise reach.
The lift brings fresh circulation into areas that have been held tight for a long time, such as the upper back, the shoulders and the lower back of people who sit for long hours. It is done without medication and is often combined with acupressure for a fuller effect.
At Avni Wellness Center, every cupping plan starts with a short assessment. We decide together whether dry cupping, hijama or a different therapy suits you best. We never recommend a package before we understand the problem.

Two approaches
Dry cupping and hijama, explained simply
Same principle, different depth. We recommend one only after the assessment.
Dry cupping
Cups create suction on the skin and stay in place for a few minutes, or glide over oiled skin. There are no cuts. It is our usual starting point for muscular stiffness and postural tightness.
Hijama (wet cupping)
After a short round of dry cupping, the therapist makes a few very small, shallow marks on the skin with a sterile single-use blade, then reapplies the cup to draw out a small amount of blood. It is done only after consultation and with your consent.
Combined care
Cupping often works best alongside acupressure or chiropractic work. Cupping loosens the tissue so the other therapy can go deeper. Your plan is built around your condition, not around a single technique.

Who should avoid cupping, or speak to us first
Please tell us before your session if you are pregnant, have a bleeding disorder or anaemia, take blood-thinning medication, have diabetes, or have a skin infection, broken skin, varicose veins, recent surgery or a fever. Hijama is not offered during menstruation, and we may suggest a gentler option for elderly patients or anyone feeling unwell.
Aftercare: circular marks are normal and usually fade within a few days to a week. Drink water, rest the area, avoid a very hot shower or heavy workout for the rest of the day, and keep any hijama marks clean and dry for 24 hours.
We work alongside your doctor’s treatment, never in place of it, and we do not ask anyone to stop prescribed medicine.
Common questions
Cupping & hijama: your questions
Most people feel a firm pulling or stretching sensation rather than pain. Tight areas can feel more intense, and we adjust the suction as we go. In hijama, the small skin marks feel like a brief, light scratch.
The round marks come from suction drawing blood closer to the skin’s surface. They are not bruises from impact and are usually painless. Most fade within a few days to a week. If you have an event coming up, tell us and we will plan around it.
Dry cupping uses suction only. Hijama, or wet cupping, adds a few small, shallow skin marks made with a sterile single-use blade so that a small amount of blood can be drawn into the cup. We recommend one or the other only after a consultation.
Yes. Cups and blades are single-use and opened in front of you. The skin is cleaned before and after, therapists wear fresh gloves, and every session takes place in a private room.
A cupping session is ₹600 and your first consultation is complimentary. The fee for hijama is shared after the consultation, once we know what your plan involves.
